February 17 - 21 Distance Message

First of all, great run on Monday. 90 minutes running with teammates in a forest preserve is a fantastic way to spend on a Monday. I think the distance team became a little closer. As we head into the middle of this week I need you to realize that the original schedule will be tweaked to allow recovery. Tomorrow many of us will cross-train with (Julie) or Emily Grissom as we know her before and after the spinning class. It will be important to get to school early because space is limited. 5:30 a.m. for spinners is a time she (Julie) recommends. If you do not need indoor biking than I will take a group outside to run. Dress for the conditions, so pay attention to the weather forecast. After school will be with Coach Iverson for squats.

On Thursday we will have a team meeting and do our hill workout. On Friday morning we will do 30 minutes of running with fast starts and abs to finish. This is becoming such an important part of preparing for our races. The first 7 seconds of controlled aggression then float. A few athletes did exactly what we practice on Saturday. Jen Prazak, for instance, ran exceptional well. Her quick start off the line meant she didn’t need to waste energy running around people. As a result, a personal best in her first meet. WOW!
Also, please note that this is only part one of 3 parts needed to complete a full race. I plan to have you extensively practice all three parts so that one day you will feel comfortable completing your race.

Last 2 points…….

1) Happiness totals due tomorrow. Free t-shirt for the winner.
2) I will inform you of the event/events you will run at WWS.

See you tomorrow,

Coach Hoff
